The Breakout Foundation is a volunteer-run 501c3 non-profit that gives direct and unrestricted funding to local leaders lifting their communities up across the US.

We believe in the power of everyday people to be catalysts for a more equitable future. Through yearly grant cycles, we work to close resource gaps and amplify the voices of our communities' most inspiring leaders.

Currently, we have no open grant applications at this time. Sign up for our newsletter to stay up-to-date on funding opportunities.

Community Impact

Since 2017, we’ve focused on removing barriers in the funding process by offering unrestricted and streamlined grants to community leaders nationwide. From offline funding initiatives to engaging Instagram challenges, we've found innovative ways to reach and support our community.

In 2022, The Breakout Foundation, in partnership with Gertie, launched the Chicago Community Fund awarding $165,000 dollars in funding to 22 local leaders and organizations over two years.

In 2023, with support from the MacArthur Foundation, we hosted our first-ever CCF convening for grantees. We expanded our offerings by creating new experiences, facilitating connections with city leaders, and producing original content to amplify awareness of their impact.

The Builder Fund is now LIVE until April 20th— a quarterly micro-grant to help community members host gatherings (the more creative, the better) that bring diverse people together to connect, share ideas, and build meaningful relationships through joy and collaboration.
